赤べこ　三兄弟

3点とも昭和の頃に会津のお土産としてガラスケースに保管していた物です。真ん中のベコは経年による塗装ワレがございます。写真6-8参照

赤べこは福島県会津地方の郷土玩具です。

「べこ」とは会津地方の方言で「牛」という意味で、文字通り赤い牛を模した張り子人形です。

体色の赤は魔除け、斑点（はんてん）は痘（とう）を表し、疫病除けのお守りとして飾られていました。

Akabeko is a local toy from the Aizu region of Fukushima Prefecture.

"Beko" means "cow" in the Aizu dialect, and it is a papier-mâché doll that literally resembles a red cow.

The red body color represents evil and the spots represent smallpox, so it was displayed as a talisman to ward off epidemics.
