The Intel Xeon Platinum 8153 was a server/workstation processor with 16 cores, launched in July 2017. It is part of the Xeon Platinum lineup, using the Skylake-SP architecture with Socket LGA3647. Thanks to Intel Hyper-Threading the core-count is effectively doubled, to 32 threads. To further increase overall system performance, up to four Xeon Platinum 8153 CPUs can work together in a multi-processor (SMP) configuration. Xeon Platinum 8153 has 22 MB of L3 cache and operates at a base frequency of 2.0 GHz. Intel is building the Xeon Platinum 8153 on a 14 nm production process using a substantial number of transistors. The multiplier is locked on Xeon Platinum 8153, which limits its overclocking capabilities. With a TDP of 125 W, the Xeon Platinum 8153 requires efficient cooling solutions. Intel's processor supports DDR4 memory with a six-channel interface, running at speeds up to 2666 MHz. ECC memory is supported, which is crucial for mission-critical systems to prevent data corruption. For communication with other components in the system, Xeon Platinum 8153 uses PCI-Express 3.0 connections. This processor does not include integrated graphics, so a dedicated graphics card may be necessary. Hardware virtualization is available on the Xeon Platinum 8153, significantly enhancing virtual machine performance. Additionally, this processor supports Intel's Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX-512) for accelerated compute-intensive workloads.
