The Intel Core i7-10700E was a desktop processor with 8 cores, launched in Q2 2020. It is part of the Core i7 lineup, using the Comet Lake architecture with Socket LGA1200. Thanks to Intel Hyper-Threading the core-count is effectively doubled, to 16 threads. The Core i7-10700E has 16 MB of L3 cache and operates at a base frequency of 2.9 GHz, with Intel Turbo Boost technology allowing for higher clock speeds depending on workload conditions. Intel manufactured the Core i7-10700E on a 14 nm++ production process, representing an optimized version of their 14nm technology. With a TDP of 65 W, this processor offers efficient power consumption for its performance level, though proper cooling is still recommended. The processor supports DDR4 memory with a dual-channel interface, with official support for speeds up to 2933 MHz. For communication with other system components, the Core i7-10700E uses a PCI-Express 3.0 connection. This processor lacks integrated graphics, so a discrete graphics card is required for display output. Hardware virtualization (Intel VT-x) is supported on the Core i7-10700E, enhancing virtual machine performance. The processor also includes support for Intel's advanced instruction sets including SSE4.1/4.2, AVX2, and AES-NI for improved performance in specific workloads. The locked multiplier limits overclocking potential, though Intel's Turbo Boost technology provides some performance headroom.
