The Intel Xeon Gold 6149 was a high-performance server/workstation processor with 16 cores, launched in July 2017. It is part of the Xeon Scalable lineup, using the Skylake-SP architecture with Socket LGA3647. Thanks to Intel Hyper-Threading the core-count is effectively doubled, to 32 threads. To further increase overall system performance, up to two Xeon Gold 6149 CPUs can work together in a multi-processor (SMP) configuration. Xeon Gold 6149 has 22 MB of L3 cache and operates at a base frequency of 3.1 GHz, with a maximum turbo frequency of 3.4 GHz depending on workload. Intel is manufacturing the Xeon Gold 6149 on a 14 nm production node using advanced transistor technology. The multiplier is locked on Xeon Gold 6149, which limits its overclocking potential. With a TDP of 205 W, the Xeon Gold 6149 requires robust cooling solutions for optimal operation. Intel's processor supports DDR4 memory with a six-channel interface at speeds up to 2666 MHz. ECC memory is fully supported, which is crucial for mission-critical systems to ensure data integrity. For communication with other system components, Xeon Gold 6149 utilizes PCI-Express 3.0 connections. This processor does not include integrated graphics, so a discrete graphics card is recommended. Hardware virtualization (Intel VT-x) is supported on the Xeon Gold 6149, significantly enhancing virtual machine performance. The processor also features Intel Advanced Vector Extensions 512 (AVX-512) for accelerated compute-intensive workloads. Intel's Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 allows dynamic frequency adjustments to maximize performance when thermal headroom is available.
