The Intel Xeon W-2225 was a server/workstation processor with 4 cores, launched in October 2019. It is part of the Xeon W lineup, using the Skylake-W architecture with Socket LGA2066. Thanks to Intel Hyper-Threading the core-count is effectively doubled, to 8 threads. Xeon W-2225 has 8.25 MB of L3 cache and operates at a base frequency of 4.1 GHz, with a maximum turbo boost frequency of 4.5 GHz, depending on the workload. Intel is building the Xeon W-2225 on a 14 nm production process using an undisclosed number of transistors. The multiplier is locked on Xeon W-2225, which limits its overclocking capabilities. With a TDP of 105 W, the Xeon W-2225 requires efficient cooling solutions for optimal performance. Intel's processor supports DDR4 memory with a quad-channel interface, running at speeds up to 2933 MHz. ECC memory is supported, too, which is an important capability for mission-critical systems, to avoid data corruption. For communication with other components in the system, Xeon W-2225 uses a PCI-Express 3.0 connection. This processor lacks integrated graphics, so a dedicated graphics card is required. Hardware virtualization is available on the Xeon W-2225, which greatly improves virtual machine performance. Additionally, the processor supports Intel's Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX-512) for enhanced performance in demanding computational workloads.
